Yogi #2 Silver Labrador Retriever Male 1 Year Old ID#

Silver Labrador RetrieverMeet Yogi.  This handsome silver lab is looking for a foster to adopt or adoptive home.  Yogi is thought to be about 1 year old based on his visit to the vet last week where he got all his vaccines.  Yogi’s a great weight at 82 pounds and has a beautiful coat.  Yogi was found by a rescuer in Mississippi hanging out in a rural area with very few houses.  Sadly, this is where dogs in that area are often dumped by irresponsible owners.  Yet here he was faithfully waiting for that owner to come back.

Yogi is now in foster care in Mississippi and is waiting for his golden ticket to come north to start his new life.Silver Labrador Retriever Silver Labrador Retriever

  • Yogi is up to date on vaccines and neutered.
  • Yogi has been friendly with everyone he has met.
  • Yogi is housetrained
  • Yogi is good free roam when his people aren’t home (he has yet to chew something he shouldn’t.
  • After an initial verbal correction, Yogi is curious about the resident cat but leaves her alone (in fact he sulked and hid his head under the bed after getting chastised).
  • Yogi gets along with dogs of all types (there are 6 other dogs in the home!)
  • More than anything Yogi loves to be by his person and is happiest at your feet.
  • When he’s happy, he has the cutest wiggle butt, but beware fragile things in the vicinity!
  • Yogi loves to eat and has no food aggression.
  • Foster mom just found out Yogi likes to swim – she has a pond on the property.

Unfortunately, Yogi is heartworm positive (another huge problem in the south as many people don’t even understand heartworm, let alone put their dog on preventatives).  Luckily, he is young and asymptomatic, but he’ll need a dedicated family to see him through treatment and Brookline will pay for treatmentSilver Labrador Retriever Silver Labrador RetrieverWhile the treatment has its challenges, it really isn’t that bad and the end result is a healthy dog with his whole life ahead of him.  Talk about the ultimate rescue!   An ideal home for Yogi to go through heartworm treatment would be one on the quieter side – young kids can make that challenging so typically I recommend a kid-free home.  Silver Labrador RetrieverBeing an only dog works, but another dog or dogs is OK if they are on the calm side-  but I don’t recommend him going to a home that has a younger dog looking for a playmate.

Please  consider adding Yogi to your family.  A Brookline volunteer will be happy to answer any questions about Yogi or about heartworm and its treatment.

Adopt Your New Best Friend!

PLEASE NOTE: While this Lab may not be available for adoption by the time you complete the adoption process, other great Labs are always finding their way into our Rescue. (Note: Sometimes a foster home falls in love and adopts their foster dog so the dog doesn’t make it to “Available Now”).

If you are interested in adopting this Lab or any other Lab from our Rescue, please visit our Website, brooklinelabrescue.org, for more information on our adoption process. If you need additional information about the adoption process or whether you are in our coverage area, please send an e-mail to our Rescue at info@brooklinelabrescue.org.
