Puppy Mill Survivors Day
September 30
A puppy mill is a dog breeding operation that ignores the health of the dogs to keep overhead low and maximize revenues. There are an estimated 10,000 puppy mills in the US, with almost 500,000 breeder dogs producing nearly 2.6 million puppies that are sold each year.
National Puppy Mill Survivor Day is a day to remember all the dogs that have been rescued from puppy mills and highlight their journeys from hardship to happiness. It celebrates the resilience and spirit of the dogs that have been saved from the grim reality of puppy mills and encourages people to adopt these survivors and offer them a second chance at life. It’s also a day to remember all those dogs who never found freedom.
