Farm to Family – Laura
If you read Remembering Ruby, you know about our former Brookline farm girl and the many years of joy she brought us. While we were devastated when we lost her, we decided to honor Ruby’s life by adopting another farm girl from Brookline. We decided on a Lab named Laura.
As with Ruby, Laura was a farm girl. After her rescue from the farm, Laura was placed in foster care with a wonderful Brookline volunteer. On December 4, 2023, we met Laura and her foster family and brought Laura home with us that very same day.
Laura is about 5 or 6 years old. As with many farm girls, her exact birth date wasn’t recorded. She is a bit smaller than Ruby was, and a year or so younger. Where, at first, Ruby was quiet and timid, Laura is less so, but equally a girl who thrives on routines. Laura loves to eat! A possible carryover from her former farm days when food may have been scarce. We call her the “Little Ninja” because she often appears quietly out of nowhere and just sits and stares at us. She is always scouting for food.
Until in foster care with Brookline, farm dogs get little, if any, medical care. Laura came off the farm with thick cartilage in her ears due to untreated ear infections. Fortunately, she loves it when you put drops in her ears and massage them. She adores our other Brookline girl, Bella, and follows her everywhere. They are always together, and they love when our son comes to visit.
It only took a few short months before Laura settled in with us. She acts as though she has lived with us forever. Laura is a sweetheart, and we are so happy that we found her through Brookline. We look forward to learning more about her and having her in our family for many years to come.
To anyone thinking about adopting a farm dog, we can guarantee that you will get a devoted friend for as long as they live. They are truly so happy to have a warm home and a loving family to call their own. We are forever sold on farm dogs and feel blessed that we can care for them and give them the love they deserve every minute of every day.
