From Shelter to Soulmate – Rocky

Shakespeare once wrote, “What’s in a name?” It could be that he never met a dog named Pickles. You see, the mere mention of Pickles’ name brought a smile to the face of everyone at Brookline. And, as the Shakespeare quote continues, this sweet pup “by any other name” continues to bring happiness to those around him.

Found on the streets of Philadelphia, Pickles was brought to ACCT Philly, a high-kill shelter. Wearing only his collar and a leash, he was given the name Pickles and placed on a stray hold, but never claimed. He wasn’t a fan of kennel life, but he loved all the volunteers and dogs that he met. By all accounts, Pickles was adorable, and he needed to be rescued.

Picked up from ACCT by Brookline fosters, Sharon and Pat, Pickles immediately made himself comfortable in their home. With his long legs and puppy agility, Pickles could often be found perched at the kitchen counter. One Brookline volunteer commented that he looked like he was ordering a latte! He enjoyed romping and playing and loved the comforts of a real home. Sharon and Pat shared how “Pickles was full of love, always ready with snuggles and kisses for all he met. We loved his curiosity, and how brave he was. He made us laugh and learn.”

After getting all the required veterinary care he needed, and with shelter life a distant memory, his foster family knew it was time for Pickles to find his forever home. Pickles was matched with Brooke and Steve and their two children. When the children first met Pickles, they couldn’t keep the smiles off their faces. Brookline matchmaker, Wendy, reports that he has made good progress since arriving in their home.

Walks are his favorite thing, and he loves everyone (canine and human) he meets. Since Pickles has settled into his new family, he is now demonstrating the rambunctiousness and exuberance of a growing puppy. The family is working with a trainer to help him on the road to becoming a wonderful family dog.

While in rescue, Pickles and his name brought smiles to all who met him. Now, in his forever home, he is known as Rocky, and the name suits him perfectly. Just as his movie star namesake, Rocky was found running the streets of Philadelphia. Today, with so many people in his corner, Rocky won the good fight. From Shelter to Soulmate, he is living his best life and still bringing smiles to everyone he meets.
