Caya Chocolate Labrador Retrieve Mix Female 4 Years Old ID #3251
Meet Caya! Caya was originally surrendered with her littermates to Brookline by a backyard breeder when she was just 9 months old. Her foster mom did a wonderful job bringing Caya out of her shell and decided to foster fail with her. Caya has been a treasured family member for 3 years and is now a very friendly, happy girl. Unfortunately, Caya’s owner had a stroke and can no longer care for her. Caya is now back with Brookline looking for a new place to call home.

I wanted to share a quick update on the new foster dog, Caya. We are her temporary foster home while her permanent foster family is on vacation. Caya is transitioning very well into our home and routine. She is a very sweet, quiet, and content pup, though she does get excited and lets out a happy bark to welcome us whenever we come home.
She has been doing great with our resident dogs. She mostly just peacefully coexists with them, but she clearly enjoys their company and likes to stay close to them. She is pretty chill overall, but we have noticed a little bit of interest in playing with the pack, which is so wonderful to see. Caya is completely house-trained, trustworthy with full roam of the house, and sleeps perfectly through the night on her dog bed.
Caya went on a bit of a hunger strike when she first arrived, but she is finally starting to eat her kibble mixed with a little bit of wet food. Since she needs to lose some weight, getting her on a steady, healthy diet is a big goal as we move forward.
Her walks have been a bit of a challenge. When we head toward the front door, she looks completely ready and interested in a walk. On her first day, she actually trotted along for a whole mile and walked very well on leash. However, in the last two days, she only made it two or three houses down the street before she just laid right down on the sidewalk. She cannot be coaxed with food, she doesn’t care whether the resident dogs are with her or not, and she isn’t scared at all—we think she just might be a little stubborn! We suspect she wasn’t walked in her previous home, so this is something new for her. We are going to take things slow and focus on making a daily walk a positive, enjoyable part of her routine.
Stay tuned as Caya continues to open up and settle in … although, as you can see from the picture below, she is pretty comfortable already!
