Meet Brutus!  Meet handsome Brutus…this 4.5yr old red fox boy was surrendered to Brookline as he was no longer needed for breeding. His official name is “Prince Charming” and it fits him well because he truly is a Prince!!  a BIG boy but don’t let his size intimidate you because he is so sweet, calm and affectionate!! Brutus has been here for a little over a week and he is just the perfect house guest!! His laid back disposition helps to balance my female’s craziness and the 2 of them are inseparable. I took Brutus to the Brookline Field Day on Saturday and he was over excited (for him anyway) to see his old friend Bree. His tail was doing whirly birds. Bree and Brutus came from the same farm. He took in all the pets and loving that came his way. More than one person commented on his chill personality and how handsome he is.  My girl was very excited to see him when we got home and he was happy to see her too, giving each other kisses, so sweet.We are still working on his weight loss with short walks and a few laps around the pool. His abrasions on his 2 pads are looking better. I clean them and apply an antibiotic/steroid powder twice a day. Brutus is not happy about wearing socks but as soon as I tell him “leave it” he stops licking them and trying to get them off. We still keep our walks to grassy areas.  Brutus does not like to eat first thing in the morning like my dogs. He will eat when we get back from our walk and then I need to sit with him and do a little coaxing.  He eats on his own in the evening and takes his time so need to keep him separate from dogs as they will eat his food when they finish theirs and Brutus will let them.

Brutus is ready to find his forever home. He would do great in a home with a resident dog to help him adjust and continue to learn how to be a family pet. He is good with cats and children. If you are looking for a big dog with a chill and loving personality, this is your boy!

Brutus has been hanging out with us for a few days and he starting to show more of his personality. He does follow the lead of my dogs and they are helping him learn how to be a family member. He has had only 2 accidents in 4 days which is great! I think we have learned a schedule and he now barks if he has to go out, which he did at 3:30AM last night. I am happy he lets me know but he will not go off the deck and do his business unless one of my dogs goes with him and since Skye is usually wherever he is it all works out. Skye is so happy to have a wrestling buddy.

Brutus had his vet appt yesterday so he could get HW test, microchip and bordetella vaccine. He took it all in stride, laid on the floor and didn’t move for any of the poking and prodding. This boy is so chill!!! While waiting in the waiting room he had a fan club of employees come out to meet him, pet him and just love him. They were all women who were taking pictures and just loving him. Brutus enjoyed every minute of all that attention and just laid on the floor and let them ooh and ahh over him. More than one of them kept saying “I love him, I want to take him home” .  He weighed in at 140lbs and we discussed his weight loss program. I did have the vet look at his front pads because he seemed to be walking a little tenderly on his front legs and there were 2 pads that looked like they had some sort of abrasions. Swimming is great for him and I am so happy he enjoys it with my dogs. I let him walk on the neighbor’s yards when we go out because that seems to be less sore for him.

My cats have accepted him and are starting to go up to him and let him sniff them and they rub against him and all is fine. Squirrels are another subject, if we see one when we are walking I need to choke up on his lead and hold on tight because all 140lbs wants to run after the squirrel. Breaking that habit is a work in progress. Otherwise Brutus is great for walks, no pulling and jerking. He sometimes criss crosses behind me but that’s no big deal, much better than 140lbs pulling you. Brutus happily greets other dogs. He met a few in the waiting room at the vet and we walked with one of the neighbors and their 3yr old golden and no issues at all.Brutus is great with strangers! We have had several different nurses, aides, friends, family in and out of the house in the few days he has been here and he follows my dogs to greet everyone with a wagging tail. My husband’s one aide spent 30min on the floor with him yesterday just loving him and then said, they may ask why I spent so much more time today as she has to clock in and out at our house but she didn’t care. He apparently has attached himself to me as I did leave today for a few hours for the first time and the aide said he laid in the kitchen and moaned/groaned the entire time I was gone. She said he sounded like a cow. He is a very loyal boy, always in the same room as me.If you are looking for a Big Boy who just wants to be loved and give love, Brutus is your boy. He’s so laid back, so sweet, absolutely gorgeous, and will love you forever if you love him!

Brutus had his rescue ride today, thanks Mike!!! To say he is a BIG BOY (143lbs at vet 7/22) is an understatement…I thought Cooper was big but Brutus is definitely bigger. He is truly a gentle giant!! Brutus was happy to meet my 2 dogs and everyone got along great. I put an XXL male wrap on him just in case….it barely fits him. But he has not lifted his leg or tried to mark anything in the house. I walked him around inside and he came back to the mud room and just wanted to lay there and observe for a little while. He eventually got brave and came into the kitchen and then the rest of the house. Skye has a new best friend. I took him out with my guys for a swim and figured he would just hang under the umbrella and watch but he followed them into the pool and swam!!

I think he has the lab appetite, he was very interested in the dishwasher, fridge and the food I was preparing on the kitchen counter and his nose reaches the kitchen counter. Brutus is unsure of the cats, he wants to get close for a sniff but Star keeps hissing at him so he backs up and walks away. It’s great that he respects her warning! He loves pets and if you stop he gently puts his big paw on your leg or arm to get some more.

This boy is just absolutely wonderful!!!
