Meet Jax! Jax is a sweet 1 year old Labrador mix who was surrendered to Brookline by his family because they are having twins and already have 3 kids. When the twins are born, they just won’t have the time to give him the attention he needs. Jax is an outgoing, friendly, loving dog who has been raised around a variety of people, kids and situations and previously lived with other dogs.  Jax knows some basic commands, and is very treat motivated, so very trainable.  He loves people, kids, going in the water, playing with toys and balls, and wants to please.  He goes with the flow in a very busy household and does well with a lot of commotion. He is also on the smaller side at 55lbs.  He will be a loving and loyal companion for a lucky family. Jax is temporarily in foster care at a training facility to brush up on his basic good dog behaviors and is now in his Brookline foster home.  Please read his blog from the bottom up.

I wanted to share an update about Jax since I’ve had him for a couple days now.  I picked him up on Wednesday and immediately started training with Jax at the training facility he had been staying at previously.  Jax did great, but I was reprimanded multiple times because I didn’t do things correctly.

After training, I brought Jax home.  He was so inquisitive. Jax #6 Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Male 1 Year old ID#3702 Jax #6 Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Male 1 Year old ID#3702 He checked everything in the house out, he even pee’d on a plant that I had sitting on the floor (it’s no longer on the floor lol).  It was dark out already, so I put him on a leash to show him the boundaries in the yard, even though it wasn’t easy to see, I thought he would be able to get all of the new smells in.  After seeing the yard, we went back inside to see where all the toys were.  Jax #6 Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Male 1 Year old ID#3702Jax loves squeaky toys and nylabones.  He didn’t sleep much the first night even though I left the radio on, I guess he wasn’t used to it being so quiet.

The next day, we got to know each other better. Jax #6 Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Male 1 Year old ID#3702 Jax is so lovable and likes to jump when he meets people, but will settle down after saying hello. Jax #6 Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Male 1 Year old ID#3702 He loves laying his head in my hand and closing his eyes, it is really sweet. Jax #6 Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Male 1 Year old ID#3702 I did have to go into work for a couple hours, so we tried the crate.  He went in with no problem, but I soon found out that he didn’t like it so much, because when I came home, the tray was not in the crate and it looks as though he tried pulling at the crate near the door.

Jax loves to be loved.  We went to visit some friends, and they fell in love with him quickly.  Jax #6 Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Male 1 Year old ID#3702Jax #6 Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Male 1 Year old ID#3702They all said how handsome he was, and he just wanted all the attention and then also he got to play with some toys.  Jax #6 Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Male 1 Year old ID#3702He does like to pull apart all the stuffies, but he does well with balls and toys that are better made.Jax #6 Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Male 1 Year old ID#3702 Jax #6 Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Male 1 Year old ID#3702This morning we went to training again.  Jax showed how much of a pushover I am, so I will have to work on being tough with him. Jax #6 Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Male 1 Year old ID#3702 We did better towards the end and Jax was able to sit and stay, even when other dogs were walking around, but he likes to see how much he can get away with and would test me to see if I was paying attention. We will be practicing this week and go back on Sunday to see how we do.Jax #6 Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Male 1 Year old ID#3702

Jax is a people dog and gets so excited to greet new people that he will jump up to give kisses—something he is working on. He does well on a leash with a prong collar and just loves going for a good sniffari!  Jax is very treat motivated and will happily demonstrate his sit and down in order to earn those tasty morsels. And he takes them like a true gentleman!

He has become dog selective in the kennel and has been working on ignoring those dogs he doesn’t like. Jax Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Male 11 Months OldHe does have a prey drive, so he would probably not do well with cats.

He has a lot of puppy energy, so he needs someone committed to consistent exercise and playtime—and some fun mental games would be a bonus (treat balls, find it, snuffle mats, etc.). He really wants to please and responds well to routine and consistency. Due to his size of 55 lbs and energy, he would probably be best with older kids.Jax Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Male 11 Months Old

Jax would love a fenced yard to run and play, but it isn’t a deal breaker if he can have lots of opportunities to stretch those legs. He mostly wants to be with his people and gets lots of love!

Today Jax had his rescue ride and will be going to a training facility in NJ. Yellow Labrador Mix Yellow Labrador MixJax is your typical young Lab who loves people, kids and other dogs.  He does need to work on his jumping up on people, and also brush up on his leash skills.  Other than that, he is more than happy to give you slobbery kisses and receive lots of pats!

Jax is going to be able to polish up on those skills at the training academy, and then will be looking for a place to hang his leash.Yellow Labrador Mix Yellow Labrador Mix

Stay tuned for updates!  And welcome Mr. Jax!
