Leia #4 Yellow Labrador Retriever Female 2 Years Old ID #3812

Meet Leia. She is an approximately two-year-old yellow, female, cream-colored lab. She looks to be purebred. She was found as a stray and spent the last two weeks in a shelter in New Jersey.

August 1, 2026

Say hello again to Leia (3812). As of today, we have had her for one week. In that week, she has integrated herself seamlessly into our family.

She is 10 days post-surgery and is healing nicely. With healing comes more energy. We’re walking a little bit more, and although she still needs leash work, she does better with an old soft harness I had from a previous dog. She still pulls, especially in the beginning, but as she’s on the smaller side, she’s fairly easy to control. Her favorite time of the walk is when we explore the fields behind our house on her 30 ft leash, and she has a bit more freedom to sniff!

She is learning new commands. She seems to watch very closely when I give our dog a command and just mimics it. She actually will look to our dog for guidance, and once he does something, she will do it too. She has learned to sit and stay, and we’re still working on recall. She follows me everywhere and just wants love.

We have taken her to visit family and friends, and she has endeared herself to everyone she meets, human and pet alike. She loves car rides, especially when her nose can be out the window.

Leai is a very sweet girl who is happy around the people and animals she trusts.

We welcomed Leia on Saturday afternoon as our first foster dog. At first, she preferred to be outside, but as of today, she is very comfortable in the house or out. She will occasionally go to her crate, but for the most part, she prefers to be lying next to a human or our resident dog. As she is recovering from surgery, her activity is limited, but she is very playful and enjoys short walks around the yard. The leash seems to be a bit of a foreign concept to her, so we will work on that as the weeks go by.

The first meeting with our dog went very well, as did the meeting with the neighbor’s rescue pit bull yesterday. She also met our grandchildren, who are ages 7, 9, and 12, and was great with all three. She has not had any accidents in the house, and she is sleeping through the night. She found the cats today and is very interested. They put her in her place rather quickly when she tried to chase them.
