Meet Lisa! This adorable Lab mix was found stray with her two sisters, Lacey and Laura Leigh, in Arkansas. They were running in the middle of Main St when a rescue volunteer spotted them and got them into safety. Lisa is currently in foster care in AR with her two sisters. Today was our second day with Lisa, and we’re all starting to settle into a routine.Lisa Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Female 4.5 Months Old ID #3909

The day started a bit stressful with Lisa struggling to feel relaxed enough to potty after not wanting to go during the night trips, and we were worried about her holding it so long (15 hours or so). But she finally went to the bathroom around 9:00 AM, and everyone felt a lot more at ease after that. She’s been using the potty grass and sitting by the door when she’s ready to go out ever since. We’ve not had any accidents today so far (one small one yesterday when she was feeling anxious about going outside).

We spent some time today working on commands, including sit, stay, here, and off. She’s already got “sit” down and is starting to get the hang of “leave it” and “here” as well. She understands “off” quite well but needs help with the initial impulse to get on us or the table. But she’s young and eager to please, so I think she’s going to learn quickly.

She wasn’t interested in some of the dog toys we had, mostly favoring her yak chews. So, I grabbed her a crinkle toy, a medium frisbee, and a puzzle toy, all of which she loved. It’s been interesting to see what she likes and doesn’t like. She wants to occasionally pick up a child’s toy, but she can be redirected easily. She’s not a very strong chewer, and she understands to pick things up with a gentle bite. This makes it easier when she occasionally picks up an incorrect item.

She’s very interested in our cat today, which he’s very unhappy about. She’s not chasing him but more curious and wants to sniff him. But he’s not having it. She listens well, though, and backs up.

She’s a real cuddle bug with our 7-year-old son. And just wants to be near him. We’re working on ensuring he sits up, though, and using “off” when she starts to crawl on him, as she’s bigger than she thinks and it’s not very good manners to have her paws on him. But she’s not nibbled or been rough. I think that’s a testament to her former foster environment in Arkansas.

We took another nap today so everyone could have some low-stimulation time. She went right into her kennel. While she whined just a bit, she quickly settled in for a nap for about an hour.

She’s lower energy for a puppy and really just wants to lie down close to someone and relax. She is very content just chewing on her yak chew and cuddling. Today, she did venture more through the safe rooms of the house for a bit of alone time. She’s also getting the hang of the stairs and is less scared. But she’s a much calmer puppy than I expected and easy to redirect. She looks at me for reassurance often, so I can tell she’s eager to do well.

We’re very in love with her and know that she’s a very special pup.

Lisa joined our family this morning! Everyone was smitten from the moment we saw her. I might be biased, but it’s nice to have a girl in the house.Lisa Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Female 4.5 Months Old ID #3909

Before joining us, Lisa was a stray puppy in Arkansas. She and her sisters, Lacey & Laura Leigh, were found crossing Main Street when a rescue volunteer spotted them and got them to safety. Thank you to Monticello Rescue, who has been looking after her and her sisters.

So far, Lisa is getting settled. She’s still quite shy but so full of love. She loves belly rubs and just wants to please. We’ve spent most of the day cuddling up on the couch. She’s loved sleeping on me and my 7-year-old son.Lisa Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Female 4.5 Months Old ID #3909

She’s already mostly housebroken except for an excited trickle. The toughest part is teaching her how to potty on the potty grass in the backyard, as she’s still awaiting another vaccine before she can go to the park across the street. But we’re just happy if she feels comfortable enough to go out there and clean up along the way.

We got up early this morning to get her, so we were all a bit sleepy. After we got home, we gave her a bath, and then she took a nap in her kennel for about an hour while I slept in our bed next to her. She did a great job and barely made a peep.

She still needs to learn her basic commands. To start with, we’re working on sit, off, here, and leave it right now. But it’s day 1, and she’s just a pup. But she’s a quick learner with “off” so far.

She isn’t so interested in the dog toy stuffy, but she loves her yak chew. She keeps trying to steal the cat’s toys, though. And it almost seems like our cat, Biscuit, finds it funny because he keeps knocking them back off his cat tree so she can grab them.

Speaking of our cat, Lisa has done a great job respecting Biscuit’s boundaries and not getting too close. He definitely hisses at her as a warning, and we move him. But she’s listening and giving him space. She’s not chased him yet.

We can’t wait to see how this beautiful girl settles in.

Lisa and her sister Lacey went to the vet a couple of days ago for their booster, so they are now ready to travel! Both are waiting patiently for their forever family to find them!Lisa Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Female 4.5 Months Old ID #3909

Lisa met our cats, Grayson and Mac. She was interested but very cautious with them, and when Grayson gave her a little bop, she moved away from him. She should acclimate pretty easily into a household with cats.
