Marlowe Black Labrador Retriever Male 9 Years Old ID #3500

June 26, 2025

Marlowe has big news … he conquered the stairs! Foster Mom put him on a leash, and he went right up beside her. It took a little more courage for him to go down, but FM put a yummy treat on each step to boost his confidence, and he slowly came down on his own. Marlowe has not ventured up again, but he was trained to stay on the first floor in his previous home, so it might take some getting used to for him to integrate the steps into his daily life. We will continue to encourage him so he knows it’s ok to go upstairs and explore now.

In other exciting news, Marlowe received his Brookline Welcome Box today. He enjoyed sorting through his new toys and happily finished his bully stick right away.

Marlowe is rapidly adjusting to our home and routine. He is much more settled and comfortable here than when he joined us just 3 days ago. He is still doing great when we are gone and is now sleeping through the night. He does well with both resident dogs. They peacefully co-exist and haven’t really played since their introduction on Sunday. Of course, it isn’t ideal weather to be playing outside! Marlowe still sleeps downstairs in the living room as he has not mastered the stairs quite yet, but you can’t be perfect in every way!

Marlowe is a smart guy who knows several commands – sit, down, come, no, drop, and leave it. Marlowe is a big fan of mealtime and treats. He is also learning to love frozen peanut butter Kong. He wasn’t quite sure what to do with the first one I gave him, but he finished it like a pro now. Squirt cheese is also a favorite of his, preferably on a lick mat. Yum!

Keeping FM Company!

Very early this morning, Marlowe went on his first walk around the neighborhood. It is only about 20 minutes, but he did very well. We didn’t see any other dogs, but we passed a few people like a champ. He loved sniffing all the new scents, but we were both happy to get back in the air conditioning. Foster Mom got Marlowe his own frisbee today, and we played a little fetch when the resident dogs weren’t around to ruin the fun. Foster Mom did not have her camera handy to get a video, but she will be better prepared tomorrow. The game didn’t last long because of the heat, and Marlowe had to take a rest and cool off in the pool when we were done.

I love my new frisbee!

Most importantly, Foster Mom got her first kiss from Marlowe today – a gentle slurp on the cheek. Such a sweet boy!  ❤️

Marlowe is one happy guy – his tail does not stop wagging. He will be ready to find his forever home soon, as there is really nothing for Foster Mom to teach him!

Meet OS Marlowe! Marlowe is a very friendly 9-year-old black purebred English Lab.  He is intact, so he will need to be adopted with a neuter contract if we can’t get it done while he is in foster care.

Marlowe has been with us for 24 hours now. He was nervous and panting on his ride home, which is understandable since it was his third car ride of the day. He was happy to snuggle up to me in the back seat and continues to be a total love bug. black labrador retriever

After thoroughly inspecting our backyard and the first floor of our house, we introduced him to each resident dog separately. We have a 5-year-old male and a 2-year-old female. Introductions went well. Our female made sure to let Marlowe know that they would just be friends. (I think he may have had some romantic interest in her.) Once he understood their relationship better, the two of them ran around in the backyard a little. His previous owner reported that he likes playing with other dogs, and he definitely seems to. It was hot, so he plopped himself down in the baby pool to cool off. Handsome and smart!

Marlowe doesn’t know how to do the stairs, so Foster Mom slept downstairs with him last night. We are working on the stairs today, so he will hopefully be able to sleep in our bedroom on the second floor with the rest of the gang soon.

Due to the hot weather, we have not spent a lot of time outside today. I can report that Marlowe seems comfortable exploring the backyard by himself or with the other dogs. He is house-trained and has not gotten into anything that isn’t his. He loves to eat and is very food-motivated. He has no interest in toys or balls, but when it cools off (if it ever cools off), we will get him a frisbee as his former owners say that is his favorite.

He is my shadow, and his favorite spot is by my side.
