Mary Black Labrador Retriever Mix Female ~1 Year 4 Months Old

Meet Mary! Mary was roaming the streets in McGhee and got picked up and was in a shelter for 10 months in Arkansas. She found herself on the euthanize list for her uncanny ability to get out of her pen there. Monticello 2nd Chance Fur Dogs Rescue didn’t want to let this young, sweet girl have that fate so they picked her up and got her into one of their foster homes. As loving, indoor homes are hard to find in that area of Arkansas, Monticello reached out to Brookline to help rehome her. Mary has been in foster care with me for about 3 months now.  When she first arrived, she tested positive for heartworm.  She was treated for the heartworm while in my care and officially tested negative on August 24! This sweetheart is now ready to find her forever home!One thing to know about Mary is that she is a hugger! She loves her people, and strangers alike. I think all her trips to the vet were a positive for her because she got so much love and attention from the vet and the vet techs. She melted everyone’s hearts with her sweetness. When she first arrived, she was living outside in the yard. She wasn’t really a fan of being left alone and would try to get out by digging under the fence. On one attempt, she cut her self really bad and had to get stitches! I decided after that to make her an inside dog and she only goes outside now to do her business, play and explore under supervision.

She loves being an inside dog, and since she’s been living in the house hasn’t tried to escape from the yard again. She is usually the first one back inside after our outside trips.Mary is good with other dog and passed her cat test with flying colors. She was more afraid of the cats than they of her!

Mary likes to play chase with other dogs, and has been exposed to many breeds, ages and sizes. She is not a fan of in your face type of playing and doesn’t like when other dogs try to steal something she is playing with or chewing on.

Now that she has settled into pack living, she is much better about other dogs being in her face and annoying her or being near her when she has a high value treat.

Mary is used to us working for a full day and is happy lounging around the house with the other dogs while we are away. Though if there is something to rip up like paper and cardboard laying around, Mary will have some “fun” with it. LOL.  Mary does loves her chew bones though so they keep her busy for a while. Mary has one funny little quirk when it comes to her food bowl, I think she likes eating the kibble off the floor rather than from her bowl!

She doesn’t get the opportunity to get out on many walks, but on her trips to the vet, she walks well on a slip leash.

Mary is a sweet and loving dog that deserves to have her very own home. I think she will acclimate quickly to a new home as long as she is getting plenty of love, attention and especially hugs!
