Meg #3 Black Labrador Mix Female 11 Years Old #3762 & Mike #2 Black Labrador Mix Male 11 Years Old #3763

Black Labrador MixesMeet Meg and Mike! Meg and Mike are a bonded pair of 11yo (DOB 05/01/15) Labrador mixes who were temporarily residing at a kennel since February 22 after their owner went into the hospital for treatment but never made it out.  Unfortunately, he passed on April 22 and now Meg and Mike are without a place to go back home to. They are looking for an adopter that can give them a loving place to land to enjoy their golden years together. Meg and Mike are eligible for our Silver Muzzle Match Program: https://brooklinelabrescue.org/adopt/silver-muzzle-match-program/

Their owner provided a stipend in his will for any future medical care and their adoption fee is waived thanks to a generous donation from the estate.

Meg and Mike are now available to adopt:https://www.petfinder.com/dog/meg-and-mike-c5f376ba-c71b-4117-aa71-b991a6329074/pa/warrington/brookline-labrador-rescue-pa06/details/

Please read their blog from the bottom up to learn more about them while in foster care.

Meg and Mike have settled in to our daily routine.  Meg tends to be more of my shadow through out the day and likes to take a slipper or shoe of mine to bed with her for comfort. Meg followed me upstairs today to supervise my work when I went up there to change the filter on the blower  and she had no problem navigating up and down the stairs.
Mike loves all his toys from his Brookline goodie box and spent some time stacking all his treasures up on the couch yesterday. When he was done, he was ready for a nap!

Meg and Mike like hanging out outside as well.

Meg has the cutest little dance when she gets excited about going out!

Meg and Mike are hoping that their forever family find them soon!  They are sweet dogs that will make great companions for anyone looking for active senior dogs to keep you company.

Meg and Mike were very happy to receive their welcome boxes.  I have attached a couple of videos.  I think they were not quite sure what to make of an avalanche of goodies.

Meg and Mike had a field trip to my daughter’s house this weekend. They both enjoyed running around the big fenced in yard and exploring the woods.

They both met my daughter’s foster, Gusty and did okay meeting her.

Mike comes on a bit strong and can be bossy at times with female dogs, including his sister, Meg.

Meg seemed like she wanted to play chase with Gusty but as Gusty is timid and submissive, Meg was a bit too much for her.

Meg also did okay meeting Sammy but as reported by the shelter, Mike does not care for male dogs, and displayed his displeasure with growls and barking.  We made sure Sammy kept his distance and we kept Mike on leash when Sammy was out in the yard to keep everyone safe and happy. Meg and Mike would do best being in a home where they were the center of attention as they were used to being the only dogs in their household and didn’t really socialize much with other dogs. They do however walk nicely on leash and have no reaction when walking near other dogs on leash or if another dog is behind a fence which makes them a pleasure to walk.

My daughter and her husband came over on Memorial Day so Meg and Mike went out on a walk with them. They reported that they walked great on leash and did 2 miles without issue. My son in law said that they could have done another mile without any problems. They were ready for a good nap afterwards though!Black Labrador Mix Black Labrador MixWhen it comes to people, Meg and Mike are social butterflies and want to say Hello to everyone.  My cleaner came to the house yesterday morning and Meg and Mike were very happy to see her and get some pets.

While she worked, they napped and were not bothered by the vacuum in the slightest.

Before the cleaner came, I took them outside for a good brushing. Meg loved it and came back for more.  Mike stood still while I brushed him but didn’t come back for more like Meg. They really enjoy relaxing outside on the grass watching the world go by, and Mike is a big fan of back wiggles in the grass too.Black Labrador Mix Black Labrador MixThey have been wonderful house guests and will make for a wonderful companion for an adopter who is looking for a well mannered, house trained, playful and friendly pair of mature dogs. These two have plenty of life left to share with their new someone special!!

Foster Mom said that Me and Mike could do our update today! We have a lot to tell you about our new place.Black Labrador MixThis nice lady called Sue is taking care of us and boy is she doing a great job!  It’s great to be out of that noisy kennel and back into a nice, quiet home.  She gives us lots of scratches and attention. When we have to go out, we always go tell FM, she usually asks us if we need to go out and we run right over to the back door to tell her, “YES!” She says we’re real good house guests.Black Labrador Mix Black Labrador MixWe have been trying out all the comfy spots to hang out and take a nap.  So far my favorite spot is on the couch next to foster Mom’s couch.Black Labrador MixMike was trying to sit with FM the other day but wasn’t sure if he was allowed up. Well today, he decided that he would steal MY spot on MY couch!Black Labrador MixFM was real generous though and let me sit in her usual spot on her couch while she did her knitting on the other end.Black Labrador MixWe’ve been trying to figure out where we like to sleep best at night too.  One night Mike slept on the big bed for two, and I slept on the smaller bed on FM’s side of the bed.  The next night, I tried out sleeping out on my couch but didn’t really like being by myself.  Last night when FM said it was time for bed, I ran into FM’s room before Mike got there so I finally got the big comfy bed. You should have seen Mike’s face when he came in and I was on his spot! Mike looked at the little bed, and then at FM’s bed and decided FM’s bed was more comfy looking and hopped right on.Black Labrador MixMike slept with FM for a while but I think he got too hot so he ended up in the little bed after all! LOL…

Foster mum went to her Thursday knitting group yesterday and when she got back, we greeted her with absolute happiness and maybe relief that she was home. I always bring FM one of her slippers when she gets home so she knows to take her shoes off and relax. Mike should really be bringing her the other one but he just stands there wagging by my side. He really needs to be more helpful like me!

We saw some squirrels running around at the front of the house near the tree, but our long leashes are not long enough to reach them, that might have been a fun time chasing them. FM told us she doesn’t like it when they dig up her new mulch, we just want to help keep them out of her garden for her. Mike watches every thing and tried telling a jet flying over that it shouldn’t be doing that, but it didn’t listen and kept on flying.Black Labrador Mix Black Labrador MixToday, FM’s daughter, Claire came by and took us for a walk since the weather was perfect. Me and Mike LOVE walks, I did my little tippy tappy, hoppy dance to show Claire just how happy and excited I was to go. FM has a great neighborhood for walks and we had a great time exploring all the new sniffs.  Claire said for 11 year olds, we are really good walkers. We did about 1 mile today to start but we definitely could have kept on going!

FM says it is time to relax now and watch some tv.

Talk more later, Meg and Mike

Both Meg and Mike are settling in well, enjoying the cool indoors.

They had their vet check up yesterday. Meg weighed in at 62lbs and Mike was 69lbs. They wanted to meet everyone that passed by and had happy, waggy tails throughout the whole experience except maybe when they were getting their ears checked…Black Labrador MixBeside both having Giardia (which explains the explosive diarrhea) and Meg’s ear infection which they packed with medicine, they were given a clean bill of health. Black Labrador Mix Black Labrador MixThe lumps and bumps that they have all looked and felt benign to the doctor, just the normal senior lumps and bumps.  They are both at a good weight and get around very well. Black Labrador MixBoth took it all in stride and were well behaved around other dogs.

They both slept well in their respective dog beds again. Here’s Mike in the big bed built for two!Black Labrador MixMeg made it onto my bed this morning while I was in the kitchen. When she heard me go back in the living room, she went back to her favorite spot on the couch. Black Labrador MixMike still has not made it fully onto the couch, but yesterday evening laid with his front paws and chest on to the couch dangling his feet on the floor.Black Labrador MixBlack Labrador Mix Black Labrador MixThey take their meds well in pill pockets and the powder medicine mixed in wet dog food. Today when I came home from the grocery store, they both met me at the door to the garage and Meg had a slipper in her mouth to give me like she was saying welcome home. Unfortunately I didn’t have my camera handy.

Meg and Mike came to me yesterday with lots of tail wags and panting.  After he arrived yesterday, poor Mike had an upset stomach from nerves I think, and had an unfortunate diarrhea explosion on his way to the back door to be let out. I think he was more upset than me having to clean up after him.  I took him out every hour or when he asked to go out so for the rest of the day, he made it outside in time. Black Labrador MixToday he has been fine, no poops at all yet.  Meg settled in pretty quickly and has been next to me or at my feet until just now when my daughter arrived. Black Labrador MixMeg is very social and LOVES to get attention. Black Labrador Mix

Mike also likes his pets but probably likes my cookie better! Black Labrador Mix

After lots of tail wags and pets, Meg decided that she would climb up on to the couch next to my daughter and looked for more pets. She would sweetly ask for more with gentle kisses.Black Labrador Mix Black Labrador Mix

Last night, both slept well.. Mike is sleeping on a giant bed made for two. Meg prefers the smaller dog bed.  When I stirred in the night, Meg came out of her bed and laid on the rug right beside the bed next to me. Black Labrador MixBoth stayed there in their spots until 6.45am. This morning, they gave a neighbor watering a bark while out on their long runner leashes, but they came right to me on the deck when I called them. They are settling in very well I think.

Today, Meg and Mike finally had their rescue ride to their new foster home while they wait for their adopters to come along. They had no problem getting into a tall SUV and rode like pros in the second row passenger seat. They didn’t make a peep the whole ride to their foster home.Black Labrador Mix Black Labrador MixThey went for a walk upon arrival and walked nicely around the block.  We discovered that Mike had some loose stool during the walk but the kennel told us he tended to have a nervous stomach occasionally at the kennel that resolved after a day or two on probiotics.  Nonetheless, a stool sample was collected and dropped off at the vet, with an appointment scheduled for tomorrow as they needed to get microchipped anyway.Black Labrador Mix Black Labrador MixMeg and Mike’s foster was ready for them and they happily greeted her with lots of tail wags and licks and seemed to be happy to be back in a home together.Black Labrador Mix Black Labrador Mix Black Labrador Mix Black Labrador Mix

May 1, 2026

Meg and Mike are now officially 11 years old.  Today was their birthday!  The kennel took them out for some playtime to celebrate. They are both still waiting patiently for a new home since their owner passed.

Although these two are seniors, they still have a lot of play and love left to share with a special someone.  Please consider opening your home to this sweet pair so they can spend their rest of their golden years in a loving home.

April 24, 2026

This senior pair is sweet, playful and well mannered.  They were well loved by their owner who adopted them at the age of 3 from a rescue in Kentucky.  They are fully house trained and love to go on walks and car rides.

They have been left alone in the house for up to 12hrs without any accidents but most recently they spent most of the day at home with their owner. They used to love to hang out with their previous owner on the couch and watch sports with him.  They also like squeaky toys and balls and of course treats.  Meg and Mike used to sleep in their owners room on dog beds. The kennel staff reports that they are happy-go-lucky and go with the flow of daily kennel life so they should acclimate easily to a new home.

They walk great on leash but might give a little tug to go sniff a scent.  Meg also likes to be up at the front of the pack during a walk. They would make wonderful daily walking companions. They walk nicely past other dogs, even if those dogs are barking.

They did well during a small group play session at the kennel today, but Mike prefers to be the only male in the yard. If there is another dog in the home, Mike would do better with females only.  The kennel staff says they are very sweet and they are a staff favorite!

They are UTD, 4DX and fecal tested, on preventatives, and spay and neutered.  They have a few lumps and bumps that are typical for dogs their age, but have been well cared for and received yearly exams and medical care when needed.

The owner also provided for Meg and Mike in his will to cover future medical needs for the pair for any future owner.  They also will come with several bags of their food.

We would love to get these two into a home before their 11th birthday and make their birthday wishes come true.  Please reach out to info@brooklinelabrescue.org if you are interested in learning how you can help this special duo.
