YAY! Mocha was able to luck into an earlier spay appointment! I’ll be picking her up in about an hour. Send some healing mojo her way. Once she’s in shipshape again, she’ll be ready to find her forever home! Here’s just a little bit of Mocha. She is a velcro dog of the best kind and will sit looking at you this close……entirely too long 🙂 She usually wins herself some more pets.

I may have also mentioned that she’s a messy eater. We’ve found a fairly good way to contain the mess and keep the crate clean.

Happy Halloween from Mocha! Mocha has been quietly killing it as a foster, even though FM is extremely remiss on typing updates.

  • Mocha is completely housetrained.
  • Mocha is dog friendly and cat friendly. She has met new dogs a couple times and done well. She would also, likely, do well as an only dog. Mostly recently, she met Blu our grand dog when he had a sleepover. She was a bit smitten and it was like ‘brown dogs unite’.Chocolate Labrador Retriever
  • Mocha has been around children, a 3yr old and a 3 month old in her foster home and doesn’t seem to be phased by them.
  • Mocha is crate trained and can be left for a full workday (8 hrs). She willingly goes into the crate. She also sleeps in the crate at night.
  • Mocha has been left on free roam for a few hours at a time and just lies on the floor patiently waiting for you to return.
  • Mocha knows some commands very well: sit, stay, come. She also shakes often but doesn’t really know what she’s doing. It’s her way to get your attention, with a light paw tap.
  • Mocha walks well on leash with a freedom harness. She can get a bit ‘pully’ if you’re in a new area or if she’s really excited, but she takes corrections well. As mentioned above, Mocha knows come and has amazing recall. I wish she’d teach the resident lab! She does not require a fenced in yard.
  • Mocha has never bothered any non-dog items in the house. (and there are shoes lying about that she could easily chew on.)
  • Mocha will jump in and out of the car (or truck, she can get some height) and rides calmly either looking out the window or lying down.

  • Mocha has done a full flight of carpeted stairs (up and down) a couple of times but she’s still hesitant and will need some practice and patience.
  • Mocha has come a long way with the slippery floors. Although she might need some assistance with throw rugs in a new environment for a bit.
  • Mocha’s favorite thing is her people, or well, any people. She is not at all shy and will go up to anyone and lightly paw them asking for pets. She has shown an interest in chewing some bones, but since the one resident dog doesn’t share well, we only allow bones outside and only when supervised. Mocha hasn’t had a chance to play with stuffies, but I think she might like them.

Chocolate Labrador Retriever

  • Mocha is waiting to officially be retired, as her spay is scheduled for 11/18 (unless we get lucky and there’s a cancellation). Once she is spayed and recovered, she’ll be ready to find her forever home.

It’s been one week and Mocha is doing very well. Most importantly she would like to confirm that she has never had an accident in the house and can be confirmed as ‘house trained’. She also surprised us all by not batting an eye at the cats. Since the resident cats typically go on walk with us that is handy.

Mocha seems to like riding in the car and will hop in and out on her own. She’s spent some time chilling at the local pub while FM & FD were socializing. She even met a ‘strange’ dog while there and was very appropriate. Good girl Mocha!

One of her car rides was to the vet where she was a hit, of course. Everyone loved her, and she was just the sweetest. She had no reaction to any of the dogs she met, not even the HUGE great dane we saw in the lobby. Now that she’s up-to-date on all vaccines and got a healthy report, she’ll be waiting to get spayed. Stay tuned as Mocha continues to settle into her new life off the farm.

Mocha is doing very well settling into her new surroundings. She met the resident dogs with no major fanfare and has already improved her leash walking skills with the help of the freedom harness. She seems to know to do her business outside and has not had any accidents. It was a short evening last night after a long day for Mocha. She easily laid down in her crate and didn’t make a peep all night. Finger’s crossed that this continues.chocolate labrador retriever

Mocha is still a bit excited for the first bit of a walk but soon settles in and enjoys all the new sniffs.chocolate labrador retriever She has also learned how to find a spot and chill while FM works. Good girl Mocha.
