Meet Stella, an almost 8-year-old silver girl. Stella was surrendered by her owners because they were starting a food business and the board of health would not allow dogs to live in their house. The dogs (Stella, Gunner, Moose, and Pippa) had to live in the basement. The family wanted a better life for them and surrendered all the dogs to Brookline. Gunner, Pippa, and Moose found adoptive homes. Stella is in foster care currently. She has some skin issues. Once she is better, she will be available for adoption.

Stella is enjoying her time with her foster family (and her daughter Presley).

She likes to start her day bright and early! By 5:30 AM she is ready to eat, play with toys, greet her foster fur siblings, and get lots of hugs and kisses from the humans!

Over the weekend she enjoyed the mild temps and had fun hunting for minnows and sniffing around on the trails.

If the weather cooperates, a beach trip is in her near future.

Stella has quickly settled in to the routine of her foster home. She enjoys playing with all of her new toys and loves attention. She is most comfortable in the company of other dogs and with humans.

She likes to be involved in whatever you are doing! Last week she went to Tractor Supply to have a few vaccines updated, and she had perfect behavior. She was calm and pleasant for the vet and waited patiently in line among other dogs. As with many silver labs, Stella has skin allergies/alopecia. Her foster parents have started her on some healthy supplements to help her coat, and she will visit the vet next week for a senior wellness exam. We hope the wellness exam will help us determine the best course of action to treat her allergies.

Stella joined our household on Aug 30th, and she is doing well. She has so much love to give. The first day she went on a morning car ride for coffee pickup. She is a great car rider who seems to enjoy any little adventure. She also loves chasing the tennis ball. We have been doing 1/2-mile leisurely walks AM and PM. She walks like a dream on lead.

This morning she went to the school bus stop and was given a treat from my son’s bus driver. I think she would have willingly climbed up the bus steps and rode to school. She loves kids. She spent the morning lying outside my home office. Later she got to experience what we call “warmies”—soft throw blankets heated in the dryer. My resident dogs love warmies. The last two nights she has been somewhat unsettled. She has a bed on the floor, a couch, or a large crate with a bed to choose from, but where she really wants to be is in our bed. Our bed is pretty high. I’d prefer she doesn’t jump on and off. We also sleep better without a dog. So, we’ve compromised and took turns sleeping on the sofa with her. We will see how tonight goes. She’s really a gift, and I hope the nighttime routine will work itself out as she adjusts.
