Truffles #2 Chocolate Labrador Retriever Female 4 Years Old #3821

Meet Truffles!  Truffles is a beautiful 4 year old purebred Labrador that was surrendered by her owner. Though Truffles lived on a farm, she was not used for breeding. Her owner decided that he wanted a loving indoor life for her and contacted Brookline to help rehome her. Truffles is now in a Brookline foster home. 🐾 Truffles Update 🐾

Truffles has had a quieter week than usual—and gave us a bit of a surprise by going into heat the day before her scheduled spay appointment. Timing is everything, right? 😄

The good news is she’ll soon be ready to start looking for her forever family and will go home with a spay agreement in place.

We also suspect her recent “selective dining phase” was tied to coming into heat. For a while, she insisted on boiled chicken and canned stew only—had us slightly worried (and briefly considering hiring her a personal chef!). Thankfully, she’s now happily enjoying her kibble and treats—huge relief!

She  had another visit from our granddaughter and was completely fascinated, following her around to keep up with all the action. Yes that’s a lot of “Cry Babies in a row!”

Truffles loves to play ball

Truffles  gets excited for her walks… although walks can sometimes turn into negotiations 😄 She definitely has opinions about where she’d like to go, and foster dad occasionally finds himself in a mid-walk stand-off—with foster mom on speed dial when the chosen route doesn’t exactly lead home! That’s when our Ellie steps in, heads out to find Truffles, and gently escorts her back—reminding her that all good walks do, in fact, end at home.

Truffles does wonderfully with our dogs and takes her cues from them as she learns the rhythm of family life.

When she hears an unfamiliar noise and feels unsure, she looks to them for reassurance—and relaxes quickly when they remain calm.In the evenings, Truffles is all about snuggling up and “watching TV” with us. She has come a long way from her first encounter with the wonders of “the big screen TV”

Truffles will soon  be ready for her forever home ❤️

Truffles’ Week 💛

Truffles has had a really good week and is settling in more and more.

Today brought a little change for our sweet girl—she said goodbye to her play and walking buddy, Penny, who went off to her forever family. 🥹

Truffles loved to roughhouse and play with Penny, and the two quickly became great buddies. She especially enjoyed having Penny as her walking partner. On our evening walks, Truffles would often turn around and wait for Penny to catch up before continuing on together. 🐾

It was very sweet to watch their friendship develop, and I think Truffles is definitely going to notice that her little buddy is no longer here.

Truffles has been doing really well at night. She sleeps on the couch and, once she has picked her spot, she settles right in and snores away until it’s time to get up. 😊

Up until now, we’ve been keeping her with us at night, but now that Penny has gone off to her forever home, we’re going to try letting Truffles sleep with our two resident dogs and see how she manages.

We’ve also left Truffles several times for a few hours in a large crate that we’ve set up in preparation for her spay appointment next week. She does really well when left and comes rushing out as soon as we open the door.

The only reason we aren’t leaving her loose in the house yet is that when Truffles gets stressed, she still tends to pace. And, in true Truffles fashion, she has discovered that knocking over my desk chair is a pretty effective way to get attention. 😂

Ah, yes… we have a little work to do on that one! 🤎🐾

Truffles Discovers the Toy Box! 🤎

Not entirely sure she knew what all those toys were actually for, but that didn’t stop her from having a great time. 🧸🐾

Truffles loves affection and has really taken a shine to our son. She’s happiest when she’s getting some attention and spending time with her people. 🥰

She also loves being outside, taking her time to smell the flowers, soaking up the sunshine, and enjoying all the new sights and smells.

Of course, Truffles has also discovered one of the great mysteries of dog life… rolling in something wonderfully smelly whenever the opportunity presents itself! 😂

Flowers, sunshine, cuddles, and stinky stuff—Truffles is embracing it all! 🐾

Truffles 🤎

Like many dogs coming into foster care—especially those who’ve lived on a farm—it’s been a big adjustment for Truffles.

She at first spent a lot of time panting and pacing, and drank plenty of water as she took everything in.

We’ve also had a bit of water bowl digging… so towels have officially been deployed! 😊

One of the biggest surprises for Truffles? The TV! It was a little overwhelming—she kept trying to leave the room, but couldn’t resist coming back for “just one more look” at what was happening on the screen.

By day two, she’s already starting to settle and even joined us on the couch to watch TV last night.

Her first night was about what we expected. She slept loose with our two dogs and Mark on the couch, waking on and off—panting, settling, then waking again. The second night was better, moving between the floor and the couch and getting a bit more rest.

Truffles has only been interested in soft food so far, likely because she was fed wet mash on the farm. We cooked her some plain chicken today and she enjoyed that—so progress!

It turns out Truffles is also an experienced ball retriever 🐾

She had her vet check and, while nervous, was very compliant for her shots, exam, and even getting her microchip and weighing in at 67 pounds, She also had her first walk on leash and did well—we’re hopeful for fewer tangles and more straight lines in her future. Last night she joined us on our last walk of the day at 9:30 pm and did well walking with our dogs she loved all the new sniffs.

Baby steps for Truffles. She was an only dog, often left alone on the farm, so this is a whole new world for her—but she’s adjusting well to all the new experiences around her.Stay tuned as we get to know this sweet girl better 🤎🐾

Meet Truffles. We took a drive to Lancaster today to give 4-year-old Truffles her rescue ride from the farm. Her farmer is a kind man who truly wants a home life for her. Truffles has never had any puppies and is now ready to start her next chapter—becoming a beloved family dog and experiencing all the love and new adventures she deserves.We’ll be fostering Truffles, so stay tuned for updates as we get to know this beautiful chocolate sweetheart 🤎
