From Shelter to Soulmate – Wilson

On a very busy weekday in June, Wilson was surrendered to ACCT Philly. He was scheduled to be euthanized the following Saturday afternoon. Brookline volunteers sent out the call for a foster home willing to open their home and hearts to an older fella with multiple medical issues.

Foster parents Michael and Carole drove to the shelter, not knowing what to expect. They met a tall handsome dog who was unsteady on his feet and had a large mass on his chest and one on the right side of his beautiful face.

Upon arriving home, Wilson made it known to the resident cat that he was going to be his friend and then quickly settled into a routine of healthy food, soft beds and plenty of cuddling.

Wilson slowly rebuilt strength in his legs by walking in the neighborhood. He found lots of good places to sniff and explore and some new dog friends, too.

While in foster care, Brookline ensured that he received the Vet care he desperately needed. While he became much healthier in general, a biopsy on the very large mass in his mouth determined that Wilson has Cancer. This has not curbed Wilson’s zest for life. He continues to be one of the happiest dogs anyone could ever meet.

Considering his diagnosis, Mike and Carole committed to giving Wilson the best life and care possible while he is still happy and doing well. He is now a permanent Brookline foster dog and spends his peaceful days under Mom’s desk and his active evenings under Dad’s feet.

Since leaving the shelter behind, this lucky dog is still enjoying life and some very good naps, too. Wilson has now had over three months of life, love and liverwurst that he wouldn’t have had if Brookline hadn’t stepped in. Every day is a gift shared by Wonderful Wilson and the entire Brookline family that loves and cares for him.

*A note of sadness. Shortly before publishing his story, Wonderful Wilson crossed the rainbow bridge. It was a privilege to join him on the last part of his earthly journey. Wilson continued to be a happy, silly man but pain and anxiety were incredibly difficult to control so we made the best decision to help him on his way. While with us for just shy of 4 months, we will forever hold him in our hearts. He was a good guy.
