Meet Dawn! Dawn is a super cute and sweet approximately 9-month-old Lab mix that was found as a stray in Mississippi. She showed up on someone’s rural property in Mississippi, and they were threatening to euthanize her since she wouldn’t leave. A good Samaritan heard about her and immediately went to go pick Dawn up and has been fostering her for a couple of weeks. A rescue partner reached out to Brookline to help rehome her, as loving indoor homes are hard to find in that rural area of Mississippi. Dawn is currently in foster care in MS and will be transferring to a Brookline foster home in mid-October. Please read her blog from the bottom up to learn more about her.

Dawn (#3817) is settling into life with her foster family and getting the hang of our daily routines. Dawn Black Labrador Retriever Mix Female ~9 Months Old #3817She’s been working on learning “sit” and is catching on quickly. She likes to chill in her dog bed next to Foster Mom, who works from home each day.Dawn Black Labrador Retriever Mix Female ~9 Months Old #3817 We are still fine-tuning her house training after a few indoor accidents, but she’s making progress. She’s also getting along great with her foster human siblings (ages 10–15), who love seeing what silly antics she’s up to or which stuffed animal she’ll pull from the toy pile next. Apparently, choosing the perfect toy is serious business!Dawn Black Labrador Retriever Mix Female ~9 Months Old #3817

Halloween was no big deal for Dawn! We had several new people stop by, and she happily greeted them with a wagging tail. She even modeled her festive bandana for a few pictures around the house. Dawn Black Labrador Retriever Mix Female ~9 Months Old #3817Such a good sport! It’s been fun watching her personality come out as she gets more comfortable with us. Dawn is also a great walker—easily able to walk on a leash around the neighborhood and enjoy the day.Dawn Black Labrador Retriever Mix Female ~9 Months Old #3817 And the best news? Dawn will be ready for adoption in just a few short days!

Dawn (#3817) is really starting to settle in and show us more of her playful side! She’s become great buddies with her foster dog brother and loves running, jumping, and playing with him in the backyard.Dawn Black Labrador Retriever Mix Female ~9 Months Old #3817 She’s also getting more comfortable around the house and figuring out our daily routines. Even though she does love her treats, sometimes convincing her to come back inside can still take a little work, as there are just too many interesting smells and things to investigate out there! We also recently found out that the kids in the house are way cooler than foster mom and dad, at least according to Dawn. 😂Dawn Black Labrador Retriever Mix Female ~9 Months Old #3817

We also took Dawn on her first neighborhood walk, and she did great! Just a little pulling on the leash, which we’ll keep working on. She’s had zero potty accidents, enjoys curling up in her new dog bed, and is having fun checking out all her new toys. It’s been so nice watching this once shy girl grow more confident and comfortable each day. Slowly but surely, Dawn is finding her groove!

A New Dawn, A New Beginning! 🐾

Dawn (#3817), a sweet and gentle 50-pound, 9-month-old Lab mix, made the long trip from Mississippi to Pennsylvania this weekend! Her foster mom and dad picked her up from the transport truck in the very early hours on Saturday (appropriately, just before dawn!). Dawn Black Labrador Retriever Mix Female ~9 Months Old #3817After saying goodbye to her wonderful first foster mom in Mississippi, she understandably wasn’t too sure what to think of all the changes. But she handled the ride home like a champ, and once we arrived, she was much more interested in sniffing around the backyard than even playing with her new foster brother!

Dawn is taking her time settling in, and we’re giving her plenty of space to do just that. She’s eating well and made it through her first night in her crate with no potty accidents! She even enjoyed some backyard playtime with her foster brother this morning. She’s still a little shy with her foster mom and dad, but treats are proving to be pretty persuasive, and she’s slowly warming up to some pets and attention. For now, we’re just enjoying getting to know this sweet girl and watching her become a little more comfortable each day. ❤️

Dawn has been a trooper for the last few days; we’ve had some hot weather and some heavy rainstorms. I added some extra tarps to her outdoor kennel to help protect her from the rain. When it wasn’t raining, and after playtime with the other dogs in the yard, she definitely enjoys cooling off and dunking her face in her kiddie pool.

I think she’d be a swimmer if she get the chance.

Her favorite thing to do outside is play with the tennis ball. She is happiest when she has a ball in her mouth!Dawn Black Labrador Retriever Mix Female ~7-8 Months Old

She brings her ball wherever she goes.

I’m starting to clear out my office so that I can start acclimating her to being inside and still keep her safe when I am at work. Hopefully, I’ll be able to move her in soon.

I’m also working on getting her used to walking on a leash in the yard, and she is doing so much better here. Now to get her to walk on leash in unfamiliar places!

Dawn is a super sweet girl who deserves a home of her own and who can teach her all about the big wide world out there to enjoy!

Dawn has been living at my home in an outside kennel for a couple of weeks now. She can be a little shy with people at first but has really gotten much more comfortable and confident with me.Dawn Black Labrador Retriever Mix Female ~7-8 Months Old

She met my friend Dakota, and while she was a little nervous, she came over to see him with a waggy tail and gave him some kisses. Dawn Black Labrador Retriever Mix Female ~7-8 Months OldIt didn’t take long until Dakota could approach her and give her pets. The hotdogs that he gave her seemed to make her really happy and let her build up confidence that he was a nice guy. Dawn Black Labrador Retriever Mix Female ~7-8 Months OldDawn really lights up around other dogs and would really benefit from another calm, playful, and confident dog to help show her the ropes of living inside a home.

She takes treats gently and is just learning to walk on a leash.

Dawn loves the water and happily hangs out in the kiddie pool that I have set up for her in her kennel so she can cool off.

She also likes to chase balls but has not learned the art of bringing it right back to me for another toss. She likes to get the ball and then have a fun game of chase with me or one of the other dogs.Dawn Black Labrador Retriever Mix Female ~7-8 Months Old

As she was a stray living out in the woods in a rural part of MS and is currently kenneled outside, Dawn will need a patient foster who is willing to take the time to expose Dawn to new sights and sounds of life inside a house. Dawn Black Labrador Retriever Mix Female ~7-8 Months OldDawn is heartworm negative and on preventative. She currently weighs in at 41 lbs.

Dawn has had her first round of vaccinations and is due to receive her booster and spay October 1 so she should be ready for transport mid-October.
