Rhody Black Labrador Retriever Mix 6.5 Years Old ID #3570
December 7, 2025
Rhody has a vet apt. This Wed. for ears etc. because his last check still showed infection. The following Monday he gets the “N” word. If that makes him any more lovey lovey than he already is I’m going to need Frosty’s magic hat because I swear, he melts my heart like no other living creature ever has. He has met quite a few dogs recently and has been a perfect gentleman (assuming sniffing butts fits that category). He’s spending a few days in O.C.N.J. with us visiting family. He loves the beach but as I bring him closer to the water the horns grow out of his head and he loses ALL his manners on the leash.
He wants to drink the ocean and drags his tong across the salty sand and eats it so let’s just say he’s not going in the water even to get his feet wet anymore this weekend. He had a bone on the ride but didn’t stay occupied with that after eating the knuckles.

Rhody has been the perfect dog. His demand for attention is hysterical. He wiggles his way under arm pits, hands or whatever he needs to in order to be noticed. His vet appointment showed that his ears are still infected so they had to be packed again. He also was put on two different medications due to his allergies because his pads are still giving him problems Not sure what he’s allergic to. He had been treated for mange due to the fur loss and it is growing in beautifully. He is the hardest dog to get pictures of though. That’s why he’s usually laying down in them. That and the fact that he just loves to be laying down.

Rhody didn’t want to walk due to what could be allergies making his pads hurt. We got a spray from vet and he is doing much better. I wanted to update you on his fur regrowth. His back, side, and face ( not so much legs yet) are really coming back now that he isn’t scratching.
Couldn’t ask for a sweeter dog. I know it could be a big ask but I’m praying he finds a family who has a member that will share their bed because he loves to snuggle. Looking back to earlier blog post you can see how much he has improved.

Just today I realized Rhody has changed these last 2 days a bit because he started to stay on the bed ( sometimes still asleep) instead of jumping off to follow me . He’s always seemed relaxed but now I feel like he actually is. He always favored his back left leg but now he has a problem with his front paw. His nails were so long right before we got him and the quick on some toes are actually deformed looking. Given his paw issues he going to the vet on Monday to see what can be done to help him feel better.
It’s the very least we can do for him and we are happy to do it. He is such a ham!

His checkup is on the 25th and then he needs an appointment to be neutered. He doesn’t seem to be drinking quite as much water as he was but despite his meds his stools are very very soft. He sleeps with me but he knows what he’s allowed on and what he isn’t. He also knows he’s not allowed on the furniture although he will try and just get up on your lap instead. Such a lover dog!

Due to his previous scratching, we are taking his collar off in the house. Just look at the beautiful soft thick fur on (the top) his neck where he couldn’t reach. He such a love and it’s showing more each day that he deserves a house with people who are playful along with loving to chill and give lots and lots ( and a lot more)belly rubs.
He is also become quite the chewer so we give him a Nylabone to redirect him.
ANYONE with a pulse would love this guy but he would thrive in a home with a bit more activity than our home. It would be selfish to ask to keep this guy but trust me the temptation is CONSTANTLY there.❤️

Rhody went to the vet yesterday and weighed in at 93 lbs. of cuteness. He is being treated for Mange, repetitive diarrhea issues (had his first “pickup able” poop this morning since Sunday). He got a shot for his constant itching and hasn’t scratched since. He also got his infected ears packed.
He’s easily swallowing his pills in wet food because, like most dogs, he manages to ignore or spit them out the other ways I tried!
We went to the park today for a walk and he’s very strong on leash. He is all about the water – he kept pulling me to the creek. I have no doubt he is a water dog! We’ll be working on his leash skills.
This guy is ALL about needing belly rubs and laying with us but also loves to play.
He must have a family who wants a Velcro dog, as Rhody is happiest when he’s near his people. I hate to play favorites but this guy well…let’s just say he’s something special!❤️

Rhody hasn’t been able to visit the dog park due to his possible mange but he has been introduced to the creek. He turns into Mr. Atlas (pulling) as we near the creek or a new territory.
I feel bad he can’t meet other dogs right now. We’re just loving him around and I’m (selfishly) happy that everything isn’t figured out yet so it gives us more time with him.
True Velcro dog lovers should keep their eyes out for this sweetie. And I do mean TRUE because he will keep your hands full if you allow him. He will chill as well but who can ignore a face like his?

Meet Rhody. The previous owner said his mom is a pb yellow lab and dad is a black German shepherd. All I can testify to is that he is the most l❤️ving sweetie pie out of the MANY dogs I’ve had and fostered. He is being treated for ear infections, possible mange and a few other issues. From day 1 he was so trusting. He likes to play a bit but mostly wants and needs belly rubs and attention.
He will give me a break and lay down on the bed if I try to ignore his cuteness when my arm gets tired but he love nothing more than to make contact.
His nails were so long that one crossed over the toe next to it but they were clipped as best as could be (the quick compromises that) before we got him. He still needs to be neutered. He’s fine with dogs we’ve met. We were told by the owner he slept with a cat and they had another dog but I don’t know firsthand. I think he’d rather be the only pet IF that meant he’d get less belly rubs. He just wants all the loving/contact he can get without being annoying.
Can’t wait to see him with more fur because he is absolutely beautiful and as we all know sometimes pictures don’t do black dogs Justice
