Sadie came to Brookline from the Gloucester County Animal Shelter. This girl has been THROUGH it! Animal Control pulled her from an unpleasant situation and brought her to the shelter. The shelter did what they could for her, but our girl needed a more peaceful environment and more medical attention to aid in her recovery.
The image below will be Sadie’s official “Before” photo. Not gonna lie, she does not look good! I shared this photo with our YA kid, who said, “She looks like a stuffed animal that has been worn out.” “The Velveteen Rabbit,” maybe?
As she recovers, we can see her coat is a rich dark chocolate color. Problem is, much of her coat is missing. Sadie had been neglected and was infested with fleas when she arrived at the shelter. The shelter was able to tackle that issue successfully, but her skin was inflamed, her eyes were red, and we will never know how she suffered. Fortunately, she is now ON THE MEND! She has a safe, quiet place to rest and get back to health.
At the moment, Sadie is a bit of a project. She has meds for a double ear infection, fish oil, and two spa baths per week. We will be starting additional meds after the first course is complete to address something that showed up in her fecal.
She is not a fan of stairs. She is capable of doing them, but on day one she went all the way up before she decided she didn’t know how to get down! We are working on that. She also is quite anxious about car rides, so we are working on short positive rides that result in a treat.
She loves to go on walks and is very good on the leash. She LOVES her spa baths and cooperates completely.
In spite of her history, Sadie has a lovely nature and personality. By day 6 with us, she had relaxed completely and frankly, got a little bossy!
She is a bit Velcro—especially in the kitchen! But she does not counter surf. She has been with us now for less than 2 weeks and is already looking better. Fuzzy fur is regrowing. This will be a process, but we can’t wait to show you her “AFTER” photo.
